Valuing information: an economic analysis of public sector information and its re-use
London: 27 August 2009
The Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) and the National Archives (TNA) are seeking an Economist to undertake an economic analysis of public sector information and its re-use.
The announcement states:
“ECONOMIST FELLOWSHIP
PLACEMENT IN THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC SECTOR INFORMATION (MINISTRY OF JUSTICE)
FIXED TERM (SIX MONTHS BETWEEN LATE 2009 AND 2010)
Project Title - Valuing information: an economic analysis of public sector information and its re-use
As part of its Placement Fellowship Scheme the ESRC welcomes applications from academics interested in working in a research capacity in the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI), part of The National Archives and a member of the Ministry of Justice family.
The Scheme encourages social science researchers to spend time within a partner organisation to undertake policy relevant research and to develop the research skills of partner employees.
The Fellowship will be jointly (and fully) funded by the ESRC and OPSI while the Fellow remains employed by his/her institution.
Working at The National Archives sites (Central London and Kew), the Fellow will be required to undertake a review of current approaches to measuring the ‘value’ of Public Sector Information (PSI), develop appropriate metrics, write a report and present findings to senior policy makers. This is a high profile research post with the potential to shape information policy making at the heart of government.
The Fellow will also be expected to establish and cultivate links with the European Commission’s Working Group on PSI Measurements, learning about - and developing - its assessments of the economic cases for marginal cost and cost recovery models.
The successful candidate will have a strong publication record in economics (or a social science subject using econometrics and economic theory) and a knowledge of, or interest, in PSI issues.
Applications are made through the JeS System. Closing date is 1 October 2009.”
